The Lodge at
Lake of the Ozarks

History of the
Lodge at Port Arrowhead

Serving the Lake of the Ozarks area for over five decades

Born in St. Louis, C.C. Ziegler joined the Navy in 1943 and returned to Missouri in 1946. In 1947, he married Margaret (Mickey) Pilgram and they had 10 children. In 1951 Clarence Ziegler started Ziegler Investment Company of Clayton.

In the early 60’s Mr. Ziegler and a friend began talking about building a Holiday Inn. They looked for a site at several places, such as the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, and the state of California. The Lake of the Ozarks came into the picture after attempting a vacation retreat for their large family at Lake of the Ozarks. However, things were so crowded that they were not able to stay at the Lake and had to find accommodations in a nearby city. When returning to St. Louis it was decided to look for a site that would become the Holiday Inn at Lake Ozark, Missouri.

Ground breaking for the Holiday Inn began and the hotel eventually opened in 1965. Mr. Ziegler bought out his partner and maintained ownership of the Holiday Inn during that first year of operation. The hotel’s opening was attended by the entire cast of The Beverly Hillbillies (starring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer, Jr.), a popular CBS American situation comedy TV Show from 1962-1971.

In 1966, the complex saw the addition of 50 more rooms. The restaurant burned in 1970 and was rebuilt, along with a new meeting room and another swimming pool. In 1972, another 50 rooms were built. Expansion of the resort’s meeting space facilities, as well as the recreation area, eventually followed. Mr. Ziegler stayed actively involved in the renovation and construction, trying to improve the resort each year.

In 1999, the Ziegler family sold the hotel to Van Tuyl Enterprises, owned by Kansas City businessman Cecil Van Tuyl who also owned Port Arrowhead Marina located adjacent to the resort. (Currently, the marina is owned and managed by MarineMax out of Clearwater, Florida).

Several more ownership changes occurred after the turn of the millennium. In 2016, over fifty years after its original opening, the hotel was purchased by business partners Jared Johnson and Mike Pagliai. The partners had a vision of transforming the property into a modern, business-appropriate lodging facility that also offers a uniquely comfortable family-friendly environment during the summer months and weekends year-round. The hotel was closed for ten months while undergoing the comprehensive makeover and reopened in the summer of 2017 as the 145 room Lodge at Port Arrowhead. All plumbing, electrical, and mechanical infrastructures were updated or replaced, state-of-the-art Wi-Fi and high definition television programing added, and a new modern building façade applied. In addition, all guest rooms and public spaces were renovated with fresh comfortable finishes. The Lodge at Port Arrowhead offers a resort-style indoor swimming pool, fitness center, playground, patio deck with intimate fire pit for social gatherings, two private conference rooms for hosting small meetings and events, and a breakfast bar serving a delicious assortment of complementary morning fare served daily in the lobby great room.

The Lodge at Port Arrowhead is now better than ever and has reestablished itself as a preferred Lake of the Ozarks hotel for business travelers and vacationing families alike.

Chilling out on the bed in your hotel room watching television, while wearing your own pajamas, is sometimes the best part of a vacation!

Fun times for all!!!
We love staying at the Lodge at Port Arrowhead! Great hotel, comfortable rooms, good staff. Fat Polly’s Pub is within walking distance. Pool is fabulous, staff is awesome. Jordan is the most amazing waiter we have ever encountered!!!

Our stay at Point Arrowhead was such a good experience . All of the staff was so friendly but the night time front desk guy Johnny really made a lasting impression what a truly good guy with a great personality he took care of anything we needed helped us get food super late and even covered our Uber because we had an issue with our card. Johnny deserves a Bonus we will come back just because of him !!

Port Arrowhead at Bagnell Dam is wonderful. The motel is up to date, clean, and reasonably priced. We stay there in September during Bikefest. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We have already made our reservation for next year. The view out our window, of the lake, was spectacular!!!

Great view at the Lodge
Great view and clean room with allergen friendly flooring. Appreciate not having carpet germs and trapped dust because smooth flooring. Friendly helpful staff. Fat Polly’s Pub behind lodge is worth going to. Indoor pool was clean and comfortable.

Great place to stay ! Right by boat dock . Beds are comfortable . Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Pool was very clean and the whole lot is well kept . Satellite TV with big screen was a plus too.

We stayed at Lodge at Port Arrowhead Resort on July 13th. We had a slight hiccup with our reservation. The General Manager Chris Ayers was very nice and took care of the problem to our satisfaction. The front desk staff, Theresa , was very friendly and accommodating. We recommend the resort.

Very friendly staff! I was super impressed by their friendliness and warm welcome they give you upon arrival. The rooms have been updated and are beautiful. This is my favorite place to stay when I visit the lake! There aren’t many breakfast items available but that doesn’t change my rating because the location and staff are simply amazing!

Recommend for anyone
I recently stayed here with my wife and friends. Let me say I was very impressed! This hotel is newly remodeled and looks great. The views of the lake are awesome and it is very close to all the restaurants and bars. We have no complaints at all and it was overall a great stay!

Perfect for the kiddos!
We really enjoyed staying here for the week. The rooms are really nice and clean. The staff was amazing in accommodating with my one year old. I didn’t have anywhere for her to sleep the first night and they brought me a crib and set it all up with sheets and a blanket! Anytime we needed anything they brought it to us asap. The pool area is perfect for the kids…not too deep. Plus they have a nice area outside the pool area where you can sit. Their tables are not only tables but “coolers” as well. It was pretty awesome. Playground for the kids. Our experience was amazing and we can’t wait to go back and visit again! It will for sure be our forever spot when we travel to Lake of the Ozarks!

Great place to stay!
We had a great stay at the Lodge at Port Arrowhead. You can tell everything has been recently remodeled and is very clean. The kids had a great time in the pool and the adults enjoyed being able to sit outside while keeping an eye on them. Beds were very comfortable and staff was friendly and attentive. Great location and price. We will definitely be back!

Great location on the lake…newly renovated…super friendly staff!!
This was a short trip to the area….next time will be longer, and I know where we’ll stay! Everything here was newly renovated….clean and comfortable. Nice pool and great play area for kids. Our room was clean and quiet…(my first priority!) with a very comfy bed. The staff was helpful and friendly. We’ll definitely be back!

Love this Place
We have been to the Lakes 3 times this summer. We have stayed here every time. Not a lot of frills but affordable, clean and comfy. The staff is the best. Special shout out to Maliha, who attends to the free continental breakfast station every day. She is friendly, attentive and always goes the extra mile to make certain guests have everything they need. Will keep coming back. The proximity to Marine Max, where we dock our boat is an added bonus.

Great hotel!
Me and my husband came to the lake for our 9 year wedding anniversary. The price was perfect. We got a king size bed with a jet tub. Everything looked nice and was very clean. And fairly close to everything. Highly recommend this hotel !

Remolded and Clean! Super friendly staff.
This hotel is all new and really clean (like – I looked for dirt and could not find it). We had a great night here, the swimming pool was nice and great for kids (deepest area was 3’5″). Breakfast in the morning was good (cereal, bread options, coffee, juices, fruit, etc. and even a cool pancake machine). Everyone of the staff members was friendly and accommodating to any of our needs. This hotel is in a perfect location to a lot of fun things to do at the lake. Only small complaint the mattress could have been softer – but maybe that is just me.

Nice Get Away to The Lake
My wife and I were looking for a nice place to get away for a couple of days. The Lodge at Port Arrowhead is centrally located between Bagnell Dam and Osage Beach, just above The Lake. The Motel is older but decently updated, and our room had a Jacuzzi tub. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and nicely appointed. What more could you ask for?
